Airbnb's 3D floor plan comes from an in-app scan with an iPhone 12 Pro or later or a 2020-or-later iPad Pro. It is ready in 24–48 hours, and hosts can edit it before guests see it.

Airbnb's 3D Floor Plan in Short

Airbnb announced on 30 September 2026 that hosts can scan their rooms in the Airbnb app to add an interactive 3D floor plan to a listing. The feature was "rolling out now" and due to reach all hosts "in the coming weeks", so it may not be in your app yet.

  • How it is made. You walk through your home with the Airbnb app open. The phone's camera and LiDAR sensor capture the rooms, and Airbnb builds the plan from that scan. According to Airbnb's help article, the plan identifies rooms and furniture and may suggest amenities to add.
  • What you need. An iPhone Pro (iPhone 12 Pro or later) or an iPad Pro from 2020 or later. Airbnb lists no other devices for the scan.
  • How long it takes. After the scan, the plan shows "Processing" and is ready within 24–48 hours.
  • You stay in control. You can edit the plan on your phone or laptop before guests see it, and it only goes on your listing when you choose to show it.

The point of the plan is simple: guests can see how the rooms connect before they book. Questions such as which bedroom has the bathroom next to it, or whether the second bed is in a real bedroom, are easier to answer from a plan than from a gallery of single-room photos.

What You Need Before You Scan

You need Details
A compatible device iPhone 12 Pro or later (Pro models), or iPad Pro (2020 or later), with a LiDAR sensor
The Airbnb app Signed in to your host account, with camera access allowed
The feature in your account It was rolling out from 30 September 2026; if you don't see "Floor plan" in the Listing editor yet, it has not reached your account
A ready home Every room you want on the plan open and reachable, shower curtains open
Time The walk-through itself, then 24–48 hours of processing

Two preparation points come straight from Airbnb's help article:

  1. Open all shower curtains. Airbnb asks hosts to do this so showers are captured correctly.
  2. Keep personal information out of the scan. Airbnb says you are responsible for keeping sensitive or personal information out of it. The scan can include camera frame images, so put away documents, photos of people and anything with an address or account number on it.

Airbnb also lists what the scan may collect: camera frame images, room dimensions, door and window locations, and detected furniture, fixtures and objects with their placement. The data is processed on your device and uploaded to Airbnb to generate the plan and improve the feature.

How to Add a 3D Floor Plan to Your Airbnb Listing

These are the steps in Airbnb's help article "Scanning your floor plan":

  1. In the Airbnb app, go to Listings and select the listing.
  2. Under Listing editor, tap Floor plan, then Get started.
  3. Allow camera access and read the best-practices tip sheet the app shows.
  4. Walk through the home and capture all rooms and amenities.
  5. Tap Done, then confirm when the app asks "Done scanning?".
  6. The plan shows Processing. It is ready within 24–48 hours.
  7. To publish it, open Floor plan, tap the icon at the top right, tap Show, then Show floor plan.

The app's own tip sheet is the most current guide to scanning, so read it before step 4 even if you have scanned rooms with other apps before.

Check the Plan Before Guests See It

A plan that is wrong in a way guests notice does more harm than having no plan. Before you tap Show floor plan, compare it with the home and with your listing text:

  • Every room is there. A missed room makes the home look smaller, and a room counted twice makes it look bigger than it is.
  • Room types are right. A bedroom labelled as a living room, or a box room shown as a bedroom, changes what a group of guests thinks it is booking.
  • Beds and bathrooms match your listing. The number of beds, bedrooms and bathrooms on the plan should be the same as in your listing details.
  • Suggested amenities are real. Airbnb's article says the plan may identify amenities for you to add. Add only what guests can actually use.
  • Nothing private shows. Check that no personal items you missed are visible.

Airbnb says you can edit the plan on your mobile device or laptop before guests see it. Its help article does not say how to remove a published plan, so if you need to take one down, contact Airbnb support or check the Listing editor's floor plan settings.

No iPhone Pro or iPad Pro? Your Options

Airbnb's interactive 3D floor plan comes only from its own in-app scan. Airbnb's help article describes no way to upload a plan file instead, so a host without a compatible device has three choices:

  1. Borrow a compatible device. Any iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro model, or an iPad Pro from 2020 or later, can run the scan. It has to be signed in to the Airbnb app with an account that can edit the listing.
  2. The accessibility scan program, if Airbnb offers it to you. Airbnb runs a separate Matterport program for select hosts, to verify accessibility features. It produces a 2D floor plan with room dimensions, which is added at the end of the main photo gallery if the host approves. It is offered to select hosts for a limited time, so you cannot sign up for it on request.
  3. Show the layout another way. Describe the layout clearly in your listing ("Bedroom 2 has a queen bed; the second bathroom is across the hall"), and order your photos so they walk guests through the home. Before you add a plan image to your Airbnb gallery, check Airbnb's current photo rules in its Help Center.

Floor Plan Images for Your Own Website and Other Channels

Airbnb's scan only helps your Airbnb listing. On your own booking site, in a welcome guide or in a property brochure, a clear floor plan image does the same job: it answers layout questions before guests ask them.

If you have no plan at all, you can make one in two steps:

  1. Draw a rough sketch of the home on paper, with each room labelled, and photograph it. Roomagen's Sketch to Floor Plan turns the photo into a clean 2D plan. It follows your sketch's layout but redraws everything, so check the result against the home.
  2. Turn the 2D plan into a 3D view. Roomagen's Floor Plan to 3D renders an isometric, furnished view of the plan, the "dollhouse" angle that makes beds, bathrooms and the kitchen easy to find. Compare the 3D view with the 2D plan room by room before you use it: the furniture is the AI's suggestion, and walls or doors it misreads should be fixed with another run.

Both results are images. They are useful wherever you can post a picture, but they do not become Airbnb's interactive plan, which only Airbnb's own scan creates. Each run of either tool costs 2 credits.

Tips for a Clean Scan

Airbnb's tip sheet in the app comes first. These general points help with any room-scanning app:

  • Light the home evenly. Open curtains and switch on lights so the camera sees every surface. Very dark corners and mirrors are the hardest parts of a room to capture.
  • Clear the floor edges. Bags, boxes and laundry along the walls can be read as furniture or hide where a wall ends.
  • Open every door you want on the plan, including closets and utility rooms, and walk through each doorway rather than pointing the camera through it.
  • Move slowly and keep going. Scanning one room at a time, in the order a guest would walk through, makes missed rooms easier to notice.
  • Scan when the home is ready for guests. The detected furniture should match what guests will find.

Common Mistakes

  • Publishing before checking. Check every room, bed and bathroom against your listing before you tap Show floor plan.
  • Scanning with personal items out. Airbnb puts the responsibility for keeping personal information out of the scan on the host.
  • Leaving out the outside spaces guests pay for, such as a balcony or terrace, when the app lets you capture them.
  • Treating a plan image as a replacement for the scan. An image from another tool can help on other channels, but on Airbnb only the in-app scan creates the interactive plan.
  • Expecting it straight away. Allow 24–48 hours of processing, and don't book a photo shoot or a listing launch around a same-day plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

In the Airbnb app, open Listings, pick the listing, then Listing editor, Floor plan and Get started. Scan every room, tap Done and wait 24–48 hours. Publish it from Floor plan with Show, then Show floor plan.

Airbnb's help article lists an iPhone Pro from the iPhone 12 Pro onward and an iPad Pro from 2020 or later. The scan uses the device's camera and LiDAR sensor, and Airbnb lists no other devices for it.

After you finish scanning, the plan shows "Processing" in the app, and Airbnb says it is ready within 24–48 hours. It only appears on your listing after you choose to show it.

Yes. Airbnb says you can edit the plan on your mobile device or a laptop before guests see it. Check that every room, bed and bathroom matches your listing before you publish it.

Airbnb announced it on 30 September 2026 as rolling out, with all hosts to get it in the following weeks. If Floor plan is not in your Listing editor yet, it has not reached your account.

Airbnb's help article describes only the in-app scan for the interactive 3D plan, and no file upload. A plan image made elsewhere is a picture, not Airbnb's interactive plan, so check Airbnb's photo rules before adding one to your gallery.

According to Airbnb, it can include camera frame images, room dimensions, door and window locations, and detected furniture, fixtures and objects. The data is processed on your device and uploaded to Airbnb, so keep personal information out of the scan.

Airbnb's help article says the scan records room dimensions, but it does not say which measurements guests see on the published plan. Airbnb's separate Matterport accessibility program gives select hosts a 2D plan with room dimensions.

No, it is optional. A plan helps guests see how rooms connect, which bedroom is near which bathroom and where the beds are, before they book. Without one, describe the layout clearly in your listing text.

Not Airbnb's interactive plan, which only Airbnb's in-app scan creates. Roomagen can turn a sketch into a clean 2D plan and a 2D plan into a furnished 3D view image for your own website or brochures, at 2 credits per run.
